What is Vapour Blasting ?

Vapour blasting is a form of abrasive blasting that uses water mixed with an abrasive media such as glass beads, aluminum oxide, or crushed glass to clean and prepare surfaces. It is also known as wet blasting. Unlike traditional sandblasting that just uses compressed air, vapour blasting reduces dust with the addition of water and allows for working in residential areas, pristine locations or job sites with other workers and bystanders present.

Is vapour blasting the same as aqua blasting?

Vapour blasting (also known as aqua blasting or slurry blasting), is a wet blasting process perfect for cleaning Aluminium, Bronze, Magnesium, Titanium, Brass, Copper, Steel and Stainless.

What is the difference between sandblasting and vapour blasting?

The most apparent difference between vapour blasting vs sand blasting is the use of water. While both blasting processes are similar, vapour blasting requires one extra step of adding water. The water, however, reduces dust and results in a more even finish.

What is vapour blasting good for?

Vapour blasting is often used to remove carbon deposits, oxidation, paint, and other contaminants in engineering applications. It is also commonly used in cleaning and peening automotive, aerospace parts and surfaces

Will vapour blasting damage electrical items or mating surfaces?

Vapour blasting is a very high-pressure cleaning system, although it won’t directly damage a electrical system there is a lot of water so this will likely to short and damage electrical systems, So we ask any items be removed before hand, Rubber bushes and seals can be left in situ as the blaster wont damage these but will stop us cleaning the area. The seal/bushes are seated in the blaster will not damage the mating faces for journals/gaskets or seals.

Do items need cleaning once blasted ?

Although we make every effort to remove all media once blasted it will be the customers responsibility to thoroughly clean the item. Through before re installing this may include stripping items down to remove all trace of blast media, that may be hidden in internal galleries or internal areas on more complex items.

Can vapour blasting remove paint or powder coating ?

Although the machine will remove paint and some powder coating it is very time intensive and does have a effect on the machine, Paint and coatings will block the machine causing damage and down time,  So we ask all painted or coated items are stripped of coatings before being dropped off.

Does it matter if my car part is covered in oil and grease?

Yes it should be degreased first, excess oil and grease and paint will slow down the cleaning progress and will obstruct the machine components causing damage and down time, All parts must be free of excess grease and oil/fuel and paint before being delivered to us.

Can I wait whilst you vapour blast my parts?

Usually depending on the size of job and current work it may be possible, If we think the job will take longer than expected or requires a media change we would ask for items to be left with us it is always best to check with us first before heading over .

Maximuim size and weight limit for blasting parts?

Most disassembled car/motor cycle engine, suspension and other components can be handled in the blast cabinet *Dimensions H 860mm D 680mm W 930 mm* and a weight up to 50kg.
